A program at Yūgen Forest always includes food. The treats we serve our guests are an important part of our philosophy and mission. Through our honest food, we show and let you taste the abundance and well-being that can arise when you don’t just take, but also give back; when you view the earth not as a resource, but as an ally.
We want to inspire you, create awareness, and let you experience that we as humans can make a positive impact on our environment. From this vision, we manage our nature reserve in a regenerative way, including our own market garden. The fresh harvest goes from the land directly to our chef in the kitchen, who transforms it into the most heavenly dishes on your plate.
Our collaboration with Bohiem is based on that same mission: inspiring people and letting them experience how delicious honest food is.
During the weekends of the summer months, pop-up restaurant Bohiem cooks at our event and retreat location, settling in our greenhouse during those days.
So, anyone searching for “a culinary summer evening at Bohiem” ends up at our nature reserve next to Dronten in the Flevopolder. I’d like to tell you what you’ll experience and why this collaboration is so special.
This won’t be a neutral story, by the way. I’m writing as the hostess of Yūgen Forest, and I’ve licked my fingers and plate here more than once.

What is Bohiem in Dronten?
Bohiem is a pop-up restaurant. In the summer weekends, they provide delicious dinners in our Greenhouse, including an overnight stay in our glamping tents. The chefs work in the outdoor kitchen next to the Greenhouse, with a fire pit as the heart of the evening.
Behind Bohiem’s culinary concept is a tasteful and sustainable idea: cooking with local and wild ingredients from the area, using traditional techniques. There is fermenting, smoking, and cooking in clay. Part of what’s on your plate comes from our own market garden, literally a few steps away from your plate.
It’s star-quality and at the same time very accessible. No stiffness, but a multi-course dinner that stays with you, with matching wines for those who choose them.
Bohiem in short
- When: summer weekends, May through September, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
- What: a multi-course dinner on an open fire, including an overnight stay in a luxury tent and an extensive breakfast.
- Where: at Yūgen Forest, Vossemeerdijk 6, 8251 PN Dronten, in Flevoland.
- Reservations: directly via bohiem.nl. Note: the best dates go quickly.
The season determines the menu. What grows and is harvested determines what comes to the table, so no two evenings are exactly the same. The fire is the constant. Smoking, cooking in clay, and cooking in the fire pit give the dishes a depth that you don’t easily taste in a regular kitchen.

How an evening at Bohiem unfolds
An evening at Bohiem starts early. You’ll be welcomed from around four o’clock with a picnic basket and a cocktail. You find a spot by your tent, among the wildflowers, and enjoy the late sunlight for a while.
Around six, dinner begins in the Greenhouse. Outside the fire burns, inside the courses slowly pass by. The sauces were so good that I licked my plate more than once.
When the plates are empty, the evening moves to the campfire. There you make s’mores, with a final glass in hand, while the landscape turns dark.
Sleeping among the wildflowers
An evening at Bohiem includes an overnight stay. You sleep in one of our luxury and attractively furnished tents, in the middle of nature, with the sounds of the forest around you. You don’t have to go anywhere after dinner. You’re already there.
The next morning you’re woken by light and birds, and an extensive breakfast is ready with fresh coffee. It’s the relaxed end of an evening that didn’t feel like going out to dinner, but like being away from it all for a while.
Who is an evening at Bohiem for?
An evening at Bohiem suits those who want to take their time. Couples who want to truly be together for an evening, have something to celebrate, friends who don’t see each other enough, or people who want to leave the city behind for a bit. You don’t have to be a gourmet to feel at home here. You just need to feel like having a wonderful evening without any rush. If you’re coming with a larger group, that’s also possible, but please contact us in advance.

Collaboration between Yūgen Forest and Bohiem
It helps to know how things work, because where actually are you and who takes care of what? Yūgen Forest is an event and retreat location with 52 hectares of regenerative nature reserve. You’ll find the Greenhouse, the tents, and the market garden where Bohiem buys its vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Bohiem is a pop-up restaurant and rents our greenhouse during summer weekends. There they take care of the food, the wines, and the hospitality around the dinner.
So you book these evenings directly with Bohiem, from May through September, on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Everything around it—the nature reserve, the management, the market garden, the accommodations—we take care of that, all year round.
Why the place makes the difference
Food tastes different when it’s pure and grown with love, when it’s prepared with passion and attention, when the wind blows through the birches and the fire crackles beside you. You sleep more softly when the wildflowers reach your tent and the silence of the forest is almost audible. The transition, from light to dark, from bustle to silence, makes an evening here different from a table in a city restaurant.
That’s part of your experience. Nature participates here, as a host alongside the chefs. That’s why this collaboration is so special: anyone who has experienced Bohiem’s food at Yūgen Forest understands: 1 + 1 = 3.
